Steel Factory in Prai Suffers Fire Damage, No Injuries Reported

Date:

A fire erupted yesterday afternoon at a steel factory in the Prai industrial area, causing extensive damage but fortunately leaving no one injured.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, John Sagun Francis, said the emergency call came in at around 3:10 pm for a blaze at a factory along Lorong Perusahaan Prai 12. Firefighters from the Prai station arrived within eight minutes.

“The fire was brought under control by 3:27 pm,” John said, adding that the blaze affected a semi-permanent factory structure, primarily on the first floor, which was used to store and dispose of metal waste.

The damaged area measured approximately 50 by 50 square feet, with around 90 percent of it destroyed by the fire. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
