Strong Winds Bring Down Tree, Damaging Two Homes And Car In Penang

Date:

Two houses and a parked car were damaged after a large tree was brought down by strong winds along Jalan Batu Gantung, Air Itam, on Thursday night.

The incident occurred at around 8.48pm, when the fallen tree crashed onto the front sections of two residential properties. A Nissan Almera parked inside the garage of one of the houses was also damaged by the impact.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the significant damage caused to the properties.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Fire and Rescue Operations John Sagun Francis said emergency services received a distress call at 8.48pm, prompting firefighters from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station to respond immediately.

Fire crews arrived at the scene by 8.55pm and found the tree resting across the roofs of the two homes. Following an initial assessment, the operation commander instructed firefighters to cut and remove the fallen tree to eliminate any further danger to residents.

Once the area was declared safe, the site was handed over to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) for follow-up action. The emergency operation was officially concluded at 11.35pm.

A total of seven firefighters, supported by a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station, took part in the operation.

Personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), MBPP, as well as volunteer fire brigades from Bukit Bendera and Kampung Pisang, also assisted at the scene as authorities worked to clear the affected area.
