A 16-year-old student and his father were injured after they were allegedly assaulted by a group of secondary school students outside a school in Taman Desaminium recently.
Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said police received a report after a video of the incident involving several students and the victim’s father went viral on social media.
He said the incident occurred at about 12.45pm on July 3 when the student was walking towards his motorcycle, which was parked outside the school compound.
According to initial investigations, the teenager was called over by several male students from the same school before he was surrounded and allegedly attacked by the group.
The victim sustained injuries, including cuts to his lip and knee, as well as bruises and pain across his body following the assault.
Muhamad Farid said the victim’s father, who attempted to break up the fight, was also allegedly assaulted and knocked to the ground.
He suffered injuries to his hands and legs and complained of pain throughout his body.
Police have detained several individuals in connection with the case, and the suspects were scheduled to be brought before the Petaling Jaya Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The police are also working closely with the school authorities and the parents involved to ensure the case is handled professionally and in accordance with the law.
A police investigation paper has been opened, with the case being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Muhamad Farid urged the public not to speculate on the incident as it could interfere with ongoing investigations. He also appealed to anyone with information to contact the Serdang District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station.
