Sungai Ramal School Canteen Ordered Shut After Students Report Vomiting And Stomach Pain

Date:

A school canteen in Sungai Ramal has been ordered to shut temporarily after several pupils were reported to have fallen unwell, triggering concern among parents and prompting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.

Authorities confirmed the closure came after complaints surfaced on social media claiming students experienced symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness and stomach discomfort following meals taken at the school premises. The situation quickly gained public attention, with discussions circulating widely online.

According to reports shared by parents and social media users, the canteen at Sekolah Seri dan Semi ABIM Sungai Ramal was instructed to cease operations for 14 days. The decision is understood to have been taken as a precautionary measure while health officials assess the situation. As a general principle, school food safety incidents often lead to immediate intervention to prevent any potential wider risk to students.

One parent, speaking via social media, claimed her daughter was among those affected, stating the child experienced repeated vomiting while at school before recovering later in the evening. She added that the situation appeared to stabilise shortly after, although monitoring continued. In similar cases, health symptoms among students are frequently linked to food handling, but investigations are required before any conclusion can be made.

There were also claims from other online users suggesting that a dish served at the canteen, believed to be sambal beef, may have had an unusually strong taste or odour. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding food quality or contamination, and authorities have stressed that the exact cause remains unknown at this stage.

Another social media user defended the school’s response, stating that parents had been kept informed through official communication channels and that health officers had already visited the premises to carry out checks. Generally, schools are required to work closely with health authorities during such incidents to ensure transparency and safety compliance.

A notice allegedly issued under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 stated that the canteen kitchen was ordered closed for 14 days, effective from Tuesday until 14 July. Such enforcement action is typically taken when premises are assessed to pose a potential public health risk, pending further verification.

As of now, neither the school nor the Selangor Health Department has released an official statement confirming the exact cause of the incident. Investigations are ongoing, while parents and the public await clarity on whether the illness cases are linked to food contamination or other environmental factors.
