A 17-year-old boy has been arrested to assist investigations into an alleged sexual offence involving a teenage girl of the same age in this district on Sunday.
Besut District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said police received a report on the incident earlier this morning.
He said initial investigations found that the victim, also 17, was believed to be acquainted with the suspect, who is a peer.
Following the report, police moved in to detain the suspect to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Mohd Rozaime also advised the public against making speculation or spreading unverified information that could interfere with police investigations.
He added that such actions could also affect the privacy and well-being of those involved in the case.
He further reminded parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s movements and social media usage to prevent exposure to risky behaviour and negative influences.
