Thai Defence Ministry Officer Restrained After Mid-Air Disturbance On Malaysia-Bangkok Flight

Date:

A Thai Defence Ministry officer was reportedly restrained by passengers and cabin crew after causing a disturbance on a flight travelling from Malaysia to Bangkok.

A five-minute video shared on X by the Thai Enquirer showed the officer repeatedly shouting inside the aircraft before other passengers and crew members intervened to restrain him.

The Thai Defence Ministry confirmed that the man is a lieutenant attached to its Office of Policy and Planning and had been receiving psychiatric treatment.

Ministry spokesman Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri said the officer experienced a flare-up of symptoms during the flight, which was attributed to a personal medical condition.

According to the report, the situation escalated when the officer allegedly demanded that the aircraft land and attempted to open one of the aircraft doors.

Passengers and crew members subsequently managed to restrain him, bringing the disturbance under control.

The officer was later taken to Phramongkutklao Hospital for observation and further treatment, according to the Thai Enquirer.

The incident has since drawn attention online, with footage of the disturbance circulating on social media and highlighting the challenges faced by cabin crew when dealing with unexpected incidents during flights.
