Three Drivers Arrested In Miri Op Mabuk For Drink Driving

Date:

Three male drivers were arrested during Op Mabuk in Miri over the weekend after being suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was carried out between 11pm on June 6 and 3.30am on June 7 as part of enforcement and preventive efforts against traffic offences and drunk driving.

He said a total of 75 individuals, including 20 women, and 70 vehicles were inspected during the operation.

Checks uncovered various offences, including driving without a valid licence, modified exhaust systems, expired road tax, and failure to display the ‘P’ probationary driver sticker.

Three local men aged between 28 and 31 were detained after officers suspected them of driving under the influence of alcohol.

ACP Mohd Farhan said breathalyser tests using Screening Devices 2 (SD2) showed the presence of alcohol, and blood samples were later taken at Miri Hospital for further analysis.

He added that offenders could face imprisonment of up to two years, fines between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and possible disqualification from holding a driving licence for two years upon conviction.

Police reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone caught driving under the influence, as it poses serious risks to all road users.
