A fire at a three-storey Ninso shop along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here early on Saturday destroyed the entire first floor and about 80% of the second floor.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO) spokesperson said the department received an emergency call at 3.42am, before a team from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the scene three minutes later.
Initial checks found that the fire had broken out on the second and third floors of the building, while the ground floor was unaffected.
“The estimated area of the building affected by the fire was 40 by 80 sq ft. No casualties were reported,” the spokesperson said in a statement today.
Firefighters used a 200-foot hose line with three nozzles to battle the blaze, supported by a water tanker from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station to supply water after low pressure was detected from the fire hydrant.
“Offensive and defensive firefighting operations were carried out to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building,” the spokesperson said.
The operation involved personnel from the Batu Lintang station, assisted by teams from the Padungan and Tabuan Jaya stations.
A total of 20 firefighters were deployed, along with two Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles, an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle and a water tanker.
The fire was successfully brought under control, while extinguishing and inspection work was still ongoing. No casualties were reported.
Personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) were also present at the scene.
