Several states and federal territories have been placed under a thunderstorm warning, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 4pm today.
The warning covers the following areas:
- Kedah: Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu
- Penang: Entire state
- Perak: Manjung, Bagan Datuk, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah, Larut Matang and Kerian
- Pahang: Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub and Bentong
- Selangor: Hulu Selangor
- Negeri Sembilan: Jelebu
- Sarawak: Miri (Subis, Miri, Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang
- Sabah: West Coast, Sandakan (Tongod), Tawau (Tawau, Semporna and Kalabakan) and Interior
- Federal Territory of Labuan
The warning was issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) at 12.55pm today.
MetMalaysia said thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour.
Such warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions as thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds develop.
