The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds affecting several states and Labuan until 3pm today.
In its alert issued at noon, MetMalaysia said the weather conditions are expected to hit Langkawi in Kedah, Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, the whole of Melaka, as well as Tangkak and Muar in Johor.
In Sabah, affected areas include the Interior region involving Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan, as well as the West Coast and Kudat areas including Kota Marudu.
For Sarawak, the warning covers Serian, Samarahan including Simunjan, Sri Aman, Sarikei including Julau, Sibu including Kanowit, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued after signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour (mm/hour) were detected or expected to occur for more than an hour.
The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for a period of not more than six hours from the time they are issued.
