Several areas across five states, along with the whole of Penang, are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until this afternoon.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the warning covers all of Perlis and Penang.
In Kedah, the affected areas are Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Yan, Kuala Muda, Bandar Baharu, Kulim, Baling and Sik.
In Perak, the warning covers Kerian, Selama, Larut Matang and Manjung.
The areas affected in Melaka are Melaka Tengah and Jasin, while in Johor, the warning covers Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Tangkak.
MetMalaysia said a thunderstorm warning is issued when conditions indicate that thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
“Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for no more than six hours from the time they are issued,” it said.
