Trailer Driver In Bentong Crash Tests Positive For Methamphetamine

Date:

The driver of a trailer carrying wood chips that overturned along Jalan Bentong-Karak has tested positive for methamphetamine following a police investigation into the incident.

Bentong District Police Chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said a urine screening conducted on the 37-year-old driver confirmed the presence of the illicit substance.

Following the result, police opened an investigation paper and are also probing the case under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

The accident occurred at about 8.10am on Wednesday when a Scania trailer transporting a load of wood chips was travelling from Bentong Makmur towards Kuala Lumpur.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the heavy vehicle is believed to have lost control while navigating a curved slip road at Kilometre 0.5 of Jalan Bentong-Karak before overturning onto the right side of the roadway.

Despite the dramatic crash, no fatalities or injuries were reported, and the driver escaped unharmed.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other factors may have contributed to the crash.

Authorities also reminded all road users, particularly commercial and heavy vehicle operators, to comply with traffic regulations and ensure they are physically and mentally fit before getting behind the wheel.

They further stressed the dangers of drug abuse, warning that impaired driving poses a serious threat not only to drivers themselves but also to other road users.
