Two Burnt To Death After Proton Preve Catches Fire In Temerloh Crash

Date:

Two individuals were burnt to death after the car they were travelling in caught fire following a collision involving two vehicles near a petrol station in Taman Tualang Indah shortly before 1am today.

The fatal incident, which occurred at 12.57am, involved a Proton Preve and a Porsche Cayenne. The crash turned tragic when the Proton Preve was completely engulfed in flames, trapping its occupants inside. Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the two victims.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said a team of nine personnel from the Mentakab Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), along with the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

The fire brigade arrived at the location, situated approximately seven kilometres from the Mentakab station, within nine minutes of the emergency call. Swift response times are often crucial in such emergencies, although in this case the intensity of the blaze left little chance of survival for the victims inside the Proton Preve.

“The Proton Preve was completely destroyed by fire, and two victims were found burnt inside the vehicle. The Porsche Cayenne did not catch fire; however, its driver is believed to have fled the scene,” he said in a statement issued today.

An adult male passenger from the Porsche Cayenne sustained injuries and received treatment from medical personnel at the scene.

Firefighters carried out extinguishing operations using a single hose line from the fire engine’s water tank until the flames were fully brought under control. Rescue personnel then deployed hydraulic cutting equipment to remove parts of the vehicle’s structure to extricate the victims.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel. Their remains were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron is expected to issue an official statement regarding the incident in the near future. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and the circumstances surrounding the driver who reportedly fled the scene.
