Two Form Four students were charged at the Kuala Pilah Magistrates’ Court today with the murder of a 14-year-old Form Two student at a school hostel last month.
The 16-year-old boys did not enter a plea after the murder charges were read before Magistrate Roslinda Razali, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
They are accused of murdering Idlan Fareeq Shahril, 14, between 7.30pm and 8.50pm on Sept 25 at the boys’ hostel of a school in Kuala Pilah.
The charges were brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with 12 strokes of the rotan.
The proceedings, conducted by Negeri Sembilan prosecution director Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah, were held behind closed doors as both accused are minors.
Defence lawyer Hanif Hassan, who represents both students, said the court fixed Dec 7 for mention.
He added that the defence had applied for a court order to have both teenagers placed in a correctional centre while they undergo counselling by the Social Welfare Department, in accordance with the Child Act 2001.
