Former Subang MP Wong Chen has rejected a call by Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim to stop criticising Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and PKR, insisting that questioning the government is not wrong.
“I’m not going to follow Hassan’s suggestion,” Wong said in a speech at a gathering protesting Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Malaysia today.
Hassan, a PKR leader, had on Wednesday urged four former MPs who left the party to stop making personal attacks against Anwar and PKR.
He referred to the former lawmakers as the “gang of four”, comprising Wong, Rafizi Ramli, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Lee Chean Chung. The four are now key leaders in Bersama.
Hassan argued that the former MPs’ continued attacks on Anwar and PKR were not helping their own political cause, but instead benefiting their rivals, particularly Umno and Perikatan Nasional.
He also said the former MPs were mistaken if they believed their criticism of Anwar and PKR would help Bersama gain public support in the next general election.
Wong, however, stood by his position, making clear that he would continue to question the government despite Hassan’s appeal.
