Two directors of Mandiri Development Centre Sdn Bhd have been detained by police to assist investigations into the alleged receipt of funds suspected to have originated from unlawful activities between 2024 and 2026.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the two men were detained at about 3.53pm on Sept 22 by the Anti-Money Laundering Criminal Investigation Team at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
He said the investigation paper was opened on Sept 10 following a police report based on a review of the company over its receipt of funds suspected to be proceeds from unlawful activities.
The investigation will cover the storage, transfer and use of the funds, as well as money suspected to be linked to unlawful proceeds being deposited into or withdrawn from accounts, Mohd Khalid said.
“PDRM will continue a comprehensive investigation in accordance with the law against any party suspected of being linked to this case,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613).
Mohd Khalid also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information about the ongoing investigation, warning that such claims could mislead the public and potentially affect the investigation process.
The two directors were identified in media reports as Mandiri executive director Amir Hariri Abdul Hadi and finance director Dobby Chew.
Mandiri co-founder Mohammad Alshatri Abdullah was previously reported as saying that both men had been called to give statements as part of the investigation and had cooperated with police, including by submitting documents requested by investigators.
He said they were subsequently detained under Section 4(1) of the same Act.
