Two local men were arrested after testing positive for methamphetamine (METH) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) during an anti-drug operation conducted at entertainment outlets in Penampang, early Saturday morning.
The operation, carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters, was aimed at curbing drug abuse and ensuring compliance with laws governing entertainment premises in the area.
Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said the raid involved officers and personnel from the district’s narcotics unit, targeting two entertainment venues around Penampang.
He said urine screenings were conducted on 32 individuals during the operation as part of routine enforcement checks.
Results confirmed that two local men, aged 32 and 49, tested positive for drugs linked to METH and THC consumption.
Both suspects were subsequently detained and are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Superintendent Sammy added that police will continue to intensify such operations from time to time as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring entertainment outlets comply with existing regulations, while urging the public to assist authorities by providing information related to criminal and drug abuse activities.
According to him, community cooperation remains crucial in supporting law enforcement efforts to maintain safety and public well-being.
