Two men, including a 78-year-old senior citizen, were rescued after becoming trapped on the exterior corridor of the 14th floor of a building at Jalan Lenggong Symphony Park, Jelutong, today.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations assistant director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 1.28pm, prompting eight personnel from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station to be deployed to the scene.
He said the incident began when the elderly man attempted to leave his room through a rear window after mistakenly believing that the room door was locked, intending to reach the front door from outside.
“However, his attempt was unsuccessful. A 50-year-old neighbour who witnessed the incident then tried to help, but both men eventually became exhausted and were trapped in the area,” he said in a statement today.
Firefighters subsequently gained access to the unit through the front door and successfully rescued both men.
Both victims were unharmed and were later handed over to the police for further action.
The rescue operation was completed at 1.52pm.
