Two schoolboys were killed after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a car in Langkawi on Wednesday.
Langkawi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said the two victims, both aged under 16, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Jalan Nyior Chabang at about 1.51pm.
He said preliminary investigations found that the Yamaha Y15 motorcycle carrying the two boys was travelling from Simpang Kenyum towards Nyior Chabang.
“The motorcycle is believed to have overtaken two cars travelling in the same direction before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with another car,” he said in a statement.
The victims’ bodies were taken to the Forensic Unit at Sultanah Maliha Hospital for post-mortem examinations before being handed over to their families for funeral arrangements.
Khairul Azhar said the three car drivers involved in the crash were uninjured but traumatised by the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He also urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the surrounding area to come forward and assist with the investigation.
