A man and a woman detained in a case involving an alleged fake kidnapping for a RM18,000 ransom have been remanded for 14 days to assist investigations.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said both suspects will be brought to Sarawak this afternoon for further investigation.
“The remand is for 14 days and the suspects will be taken to Sarawak this afternoon for further investigation,” he said briefly in a statement today.
Yesterday, Kosmo! reported that police rescued a woman allegedly involved in a staged kidnapping case involving a RM18,000 ransom demand, with initial investigations casting doubt on the abduction narrative, leading to the victim herself being detained to assist probes.
Kumar said Padawan District Police Headquarters in Sarawak received a report from a 43-year-old local woman claiming her daughter in her 20s had been kidnapped by unknown individuals.
Following the report, a special task force involving Bukit Aman CID, Johor CID and Sarawak CID was formed to conduct a rescue operation.
The victim was later found at a house in Taman Perniagaan Setia, Johor Bahru at about 3.30pm, while a 27-year-old local man was also arrested at the same location.
