A sales assistant at a shop in Batu 4 was shocked after discovering that three RM100 notes received from customers were counterfeit.
The sales assistant, who only wished to be known as Kimi, 32, said the incident occurred between 6.10pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday when two women entered the shop and bought three bags and a hat.
She said the two suspects made their purchases in three separate transactions before paying a total of RM300 using three RM100 notes.
“I only realised the notes were fake after the two women had left the shop. Before that, I did not suspect anything,” she told Kosmo!.
Kimi said her suspicions grew after she noticed that the ink on the notes disappeared when they came into contact with water, leading her to believe they were counterfeit.
A police report was subsequently lodged at the Teluk Kemang police station. The shop also uploaded CCTV images showing the women in the hope that they could be identified.
“We hope this will serve as a warning to other traders to be more careful and avoid falling victim. We also hope both suspects can be arrested soon and that our losses can be recovered,” she said.
Images of the two women allegedly using counterfeit notes to purchase bags and a hat at a shop in Batu 4 had earlier gone viral.
Meanwhile, Port Dickson district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Afiq Mohd Adnan confirmed that the case was being investigated under Section 489B of the Penal Code, with police now tracking down the two women.
“Based on our investigation, the two customers purchased bags, a hat and sunglasses worth RM328. They paid using three RM100 notes, but the notes were counterfeit,” he said.
