Typhoon Kalmaegi Nears Sabah After Devastating the Philippines, Over 90 Dead

Typhoon Kalmaegi, which recently struck the Philippines, has been detected about 405 kilometers northwest of Kudat, Sabah, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a statement, MetMalaysia said Kalmaegi is currently positioned at latitude 12.5°N and longitude 116.1°E, approximately 627 km northwest of Puerto Princesa, Philippines.

Based on observations recorded at 8 p.m., the typhoon is moving northwest at a speed of 30 km/h, with potential maximum winds reaching 194 km/h.

“This condition could bring continuous rain to Sabah and Labuan, as well as strong winds and rough seas over the South China Sea,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, the death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi has surpassed 90, with dozens more reported missing or injured.

According to the Philippine Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the typhoon has affected 706,549 residents across 24 provinces, forcing 436,911 people to evacuate from their homes.
