UMNO Maran Youth chief Mohd Radzi Rahimi was among four family members killed after a tree fell onto their four-wheel-drive vehicle along Jalan Lama Bentong on Monday.
The 40-year-old was travelling with his wife, Nuriani Mohammad Jafri, 36, one of their five-year-old twin sons, Muhammad Rizz Hazim, and his brother-in-law, Mohammad Nizam Mohammad Jafri, 35, when the tragedy occurred.
Another of Mohd Radzi’s five-year-old twin sons survived the incident but sustained serious injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at Bentong Hospital.
The news was shared by Pahang appointed state assemblyman and UMNO Jerantut chief Haris Salleh Hamzah, who expressed his condolences in a Facebook post.
“I am deeply saddened to receive news of the passing of Allahyarham Edy, UMNO Maran Youth chief, together with his wife, child and brother-in-law, who were killed in an accident in Bentong,” he wrote.
He also prayed that they would be forgiven for their sins, be blessed with Allah’s mercy, and be placed among the righteous.
The fatal incident occurred at about 12.30pm, when a Ford Raptor carrying the family was crushed by a falling tree along the road.
The driver, a 36-year-old woman, a five-year-old boy who was sitting on her lap, and a male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the victims as Mohd Radzi, his wife, their son and his brother-in-law.
The surviving twin was rushed to Bentong Hospital for emergency treatment after suffering serious injuries.
The bodies of the four victims were taken to Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (HoSHAS) Temerloh for post-mortem examinations.
Haris also extended his condolences to the victims’ family, praying they would be granted strength, patience and resilience during this difficult time.
