A 30-year-old unemployed man has claimed trial at the Sessions Court to a charge of allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in July.
Mhd Ali Salleh pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Sessions Court judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya on Tuesday.
According to the charge, Mhd Ali allegedly committed the offence against the victim at about 2.40pm in a bushy area behind an old building.
The charge was framed under Section 375(g) of the Penal Code and carries a punishment under Section 376(1), which provides for up to 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Haikal Hazwan Md Yatin appeared for the prosecution, while Mhd Ali was unrepresented.
The court fixed Oct 22 for mention of the case for the submission of documents.
