A university student was killed after the car she was travelling in crashed into a roadside barrier at Kilometre 93, Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing, yesterday afternoon.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Nur Nabila Fatihah Zainal Abidin, a student at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak Kota Bharu, was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident at about 2.45pm.
Gua Musang District Police Chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said initial investigations found that the vehicle was driven by a 20-year-old man who was travelling from Lojing towards Gua Musang during rainy weather and wet road conditions.
He said the car was believed to have hit a puddle of water while travelling along the road, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle skidded and crashed into a metal barrier on the left side of the road.
“The impact caused Nur Nabila Fatihah, who was seated in the front passenger seat, to die at the scene, while the driver and two other passengers seated at the back suffered injuries,” he said.
The victim’s body was taken to Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police reminded motorists to exercise caution, especially when driving in rainy conditions, as wet roads and reduced visibility can increase the risk of accidents.
