Three women have been arrested for allegedly taking part in a dangerous motorcycle stunt known as the ‘Superman’ act, after a video of the incident went viral on social media recently.
The incident is believed to have taken place along Jalan Pintasan Kuantan (Kuantan Bypass) in the early hours of July 16, before the footage spread widely on Facebook.
Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said the three suspects, aged between 18 and 21, were detained on Saturday following an investigation by the Kuantan District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.
He said two of the women worked as shop assistants, while another was employed as a hotel receptionist in the district.
“Initial questioning found that all three admitted to being involved in the dangerous motorcycle riding activity,” he said when contacted on Sunday.
The viral 48-second video showed a group of motorcyclists riding at high speed while performing risky stunts, including lying flat on their motorcycles in the ‘Superman’ position.
Police said such actions could endanger not only the riders themselves but also other road users, as roads are not meant for dangerous displays or illegal racing activities.
Ashari said investigations led police to identify the motorcycle owners believed to be involved, with several individuals later coming forward to assist in the investigation at the Kuantan Traffic Police Station.
Three Yamaha LC135 motorcycles were also seized to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Ashari stressed that police would take firm action against anyone who carried out dangerous stunts that threatened public safety.
He also advised the public not to misuse social media platforms to gain attention through illegal activities and urged those with information on traffic offences or illegal racing to report them to the authorities.
