Woman Allegedly Plots With Boyfriend To Kill Husband For Insurance Payout

Date:

A woman is believed to have conspired with her boyfriend to kill her 47-year-old husband last month in an attempt to claim his insurance payout.

The victim lodged a police report on Dec 22, alleging that the male suspect attempted to kill him by smothering him with a pillow while he was asleep at their home in Taman Ehsan Jaya.

Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said investigations revealed that the woman had allowed her boyfriend into the house while her husband slept and restrained the victim’s legs, enabling the suspect to cover his face and restrict his breathing.

“The victim struggled to fight for his life and managed to break free, while the suspect, who is the woman’s boyfriend, fled the scene,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Sohaimi added that further investigations showed the woman had repeatedly questioned her husband about his savings and insurance policies about a week prior to the incident.

Following a police tip-off, officers from the Seri Alam Criminal Investigation Division arrested both suspects on Dec 23.

He said the investigation papers have been completed and referred to the Johor State Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has instructed that both suspects be charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

If convicted, they could face imprisonment of up to 20 years. The couple is expected to be charged at the Sessions Court here at 9am tomorrow.
