A 42-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her elderly mother in the left side of her chest during an incident at Taman Wang, Menglembu, Ipoh, at around 7pm yesterday.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab her mother, who is in her 70s and bedridden.
He said the woman had a psychiatric history and had recently brought her mother home from an elderly care centre in Pusing, Batu Gajah.
“The mother had just been taken from the elderly care centre in Pusing and was then cared for by her daughter and son-in-law.
“The daughter has a psychiatric history. Perhaps due to that, combined with the demands of caring for an elderly person, she stabbed her mother,” he said during a press conference at the Kampar district police headquarters today.
Alwi said police had arrested the suspect and seized the knife believed to have been used in the incident.
He added that the victim sustained a single stab wound to the left side of her chest and required close care due to her condition.
Police will obtain a hospital report to determine the suspect’s mental health status, he said.
The police report was lodged by the suspect’s husband, who is the victim’s son-in-law.
