A woman’s quick stop at a petrol station to buy a drink before heading to hospital turned into an unforgettable moment when she gave birth to her baby boy inside a car.
The unusual incident happened seven years ago, but it left the child with an unusual detail on his birth certificate: his official birthplace is recorded as “Shell Nilai Square”.
The story was recently shared on Threads by Nor Najihah Mohd Nizza, 39, and has since attracted widespread attention online.
Najihah told Kosmo! that the incident took place on May 27, 2019, when she was pregnant with her third child and began experiencing labour pains at around 8pm.
She had initially gone to hospital that morning but was told to return home because all the beds were occupied.
“It was during Ramadan. I cooked food for my former husband’s sahur. I had already started feeling the pain while cooking, but I tried to hold on until he finished work at midnight.
“The pain started around 8pm. By about 11pm, I could no longer bear it and asked to go to the hospital,” she said.
On the way there, Najihah asked her former husband to stop at a petrol station so she could buy a drink. Her last meal had been in the afternoon, and she believed there was still enough time to reach the hospital.
However, while sitting in the front passenger seat with the seat reclined, she suddenly felt something emerging as she tried to get up and adjust her position.
“I felt the baby’s head. I tried to press the horn to call my former husband, but there was no time. I pushed and delivered the baby myself. When my former husband got back into the car, he saw that the baby was already there,” she recalled.
After the baby boy was born, the couple rushed to the hospital for further medical care, including having the umbilical cord cut and the placenta delivered.
Najihah said her son, Ahmad Naqeeb, now seven, had previously asked why his birthplace was listed as a petrol station instead of a hospital.
“He did ask, but I told him that Mama didn’t have enough time to reach the hospital,” she said jokingly.
Meanwhile, the story caught the attention of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd managing director Shairan Huzani Husain, better known as “Pakcik Shell”, who left a comment on the post.
“Alhamdulillah, this little boy has started school. May he become an excellent student and a righteous son who always prays for the well-being of his mother and father. Uncle will DM his mother later,” he wrote.
Najihah’s post has since gone viral, garnering more than 13,200 likes, 944 shares and 296 comments.
