‘Don’t Pick Up Money On The Floor’: M’sians Warn Of Suspicious RM50 Tactic At Bukit Jalil Mall

Date:

Members of the public have been urged to stay alert after a social media user claimed that an abandoned RM50 note was used in a suspicious confrontation at a shopping mall in Bukit Jalil.

In a Threads post, user @siangghwaa alleged that a friend’s elderly parents encountered the incident between 3pm and 4pm on the mall’s fifth floor.

The couple reportedly spotted a RM50 note lying on the floor, with nobody apparently nearby.

However, after the father picked it up, three men and a woman allegedly approached the couple and accused them of stealing the money, claiming they had video footage as evidence.

“Although my friend’s father had returned the money, they allegedly continued confronting him and appeared to demand additional compensation,” the user wrote.

The user also claimed the group was still seen roaming around the shopping mall after the incident.

“Please be careful. If you see money lying around, do not rush to pick it up. We are not claiming to know exactly what happened, but the circumstances are suspicious enough for everyone to be more cautious,” the post read.

The user added that the group might be targeting vulnerable individuals, claiming the incident had left the friend’s elderly mother traumatised and trembling with fear.

The warning prompted other Threads users to share similar experiences at the same shopping mall.

One user claimed to have spotted a banknote on the floor at Parking Zone C, Level 1M, at the mall and said they were fortunate to have seen the warning post beforehand.

“We had just visited the shopping mall and look what we found. Thankfully, we saw this post first. Everyone, please be careful. They are still using this tactic,” the user alleged.

Another Threads user claimed to have witnessed a similar incident on the mall’s ground floor several months ago.

The user recalled seeing a RM50 note on the floor while walking with their child. Shortly after they passed it, a woman allegedly picked up the note quickly.

At the time, the user said they did not think much of it, assuming the money belonged to the woman.

The claims have prompted calls for shoppers to remain vigilant. However, the accounts shared on social media have not independently established whether the incidents were part of a deliberate scam.
