A 32-year-old woman was killed after the car she was travelling in was rear-ended by a lorry at Kilometre 284.4 of the North-South Expressway heading north on Wednesday morning.
Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the victim, Yong Mei Ying, who was driving a Perodua Axia, died at the scene after suffering severe injuries to her head and body.
He said the accident occurred at about 9.01am when Yong and her 39-year-old sister, who were travelling from Melaka to Perak, had stopped in the expressway’s second lane after their car broke down.
“A motorcyclist tried to help the victims move the vehicle. However, a lorry, believed to have been unaware of the presence of the victims and the motorcyclist, crashed into the rear of the Perodua Axia,” he said.
He said the car’s passenger, the motorcyclist and the lorry driver were injured in the collision and were taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
