A woman has lodged a false police report claiming she was a victim of a snatch theft in a bid to cover up the misuse of her employer’s money, police revealed yesterday.
Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said investigations later confirmed that the alleged robbery incident never took place.
He said police opened an investigation paper at around 5pm yesterday under Section 182 of the Penal Code involving a local woman.
“The suspect, in her 40s, admitted that she had made a false police report regarding a snatch theft incident which she claimed occurred at Putra Point, here,” he said in a statement.
Johari added that the woman confessed she fabricated the report to conceal her misuse of company funds and to avoid disciplinary action from her employer.
He stressed that making a false police report is a criminal offence.
He also revealed that from January 1, 2026 to June 24, 2026, Nilai police have recorded and investigated 10 cases involving false police reports, showing that some individuals are still misusing police channels for personal gain.
Under Section 182 of the Penal Code, those convicted can face up to six months in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
