Zara Qairina Inquest: Blood Traces Found On Papers Match DNA Of Zara

Date:

Traces of blood found on several pieces of paper submitted as evidence in the inquest into the death of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir have been confirmed to match the student’s DNA profile.

The finding was revealed by the 17th witness, chemist Nor Aidora Saedon, during her testimony before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan at the Coroner’s Court on Tuesday.

“A female DNA profile was obtained from the bloodstains found on papers labeled ‘WK15(9)(a)’, ‘Y8’ [specifically at sections ‘Y8(ii)’, ‘Y8(iii)’, ‘Y8(iv)’, ‘Y8(v)’, ‘Y8(vi)’ and ‘Y8(vii)’], as well as on ‘Y1’ [sections ‘Y1(i)’ and ‘Y1(ii)’],” she said.

Nor Aidora further testified that trace DNA samples taken from a book labeled ‘WK13’ matched one another and were also consistent with the DNA profile extracted from a bone specimen labeled ‘WK37’, which was identified as belonging to Zara Qairina binti Mahathir.

“This indicates that all the identified DNA samples originated from the same individual,” she concluded.
