UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has challenged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to remove all ministers and deputy ministers from any political parties that contest against Pakatan Harapan (PH).
He said such action should not only apply to Barisan Nasional (BN), but also involve other parties such as Parti Warisan and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) if the same principle is being applied.
Muhamad Akmal said UMNO Youth would maintain its previous stance regarding the party’s position in the Unity Government.
“As stated before, UMNO Youth wants UMNO to leave the Unity Government, and that remains our position until today,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
He also called on PH Youth to urge Warisan to leave the Federal Government, claiming that the party had previously contested against PH in the Sabah state election despite being part of the Federal administration at the time.
Muhamad Akmal said the same approach should also be extended to all other parties that maintain ties with the Federal Government while competing against PH in future elections.
“If Sarawak’s state election takes place and GPS contests against PH, then GPS should also be urged to leave the Federal Government.
“If this is not done, I challenge the Prime Minister to remove all ministers and deputy ministers from BN, Warisan and GPS. Let him accept this challenge,” he said.
His remarks came after Angkatan Muda Harapan (AMH) called on all BN ministers and deputy ministers to resign from the Cabinet following BN’s cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
In a joint statement, AMH claimed BN’s cooperation with PN showed that the coalition no longer valued the trust and positions given by Anwar under the Unity Government.
AMH said BN leaders should resign immediately to allow the party to focus fully on strengthening its political cooperation with PN without affecting the administration of the Federal Government.
