UMNO secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki says the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji (TH) should not end with public disclosure alone, but must be followed by legal action against those found responsible for any wrongdoing.
He stressed that anyone proven to have committed offences should face the law, regardless of their position or influence.
“It is good that the report is being made public, but what is more important is that action must be taken. It should not stop at creating perceptions.
“If it is true that there were individuals involved in misconduct, abuse or corruption, then this is what the public has long been waiting for,” he told reporters after a meet-and-greet session at the Air Mawang Polling District Centre (PDM) and Air Mawang Mara Bazaar on Thursday.
His remarks came after the government announced its readiness to declassify the Tabung Haji RCI report.
Asyraf Wajdi said the report would only have real meaning if those found guilty were brought before the courts.
“It should not revolve around perception alone. Those who are guilty must be brought to justice. No one should be protected,” he said.
