Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition is expected to finalise its seat distribution for the upcoming Johor state election in the near future.
The UMNO president said discussions involving BN component parties are progressing well, with negotiations now entering the final stage.
According to Zahid, Johor Menteri Besar and BN Johor chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has yet to submit the final list of candidates for consideration.
“We will finalise the matter very soon. Seat allocations are almost complete and I will continue discussions with leaders of BN component parties while I am in Johor,” he told reporters after launching BN’s election machinery at the Educity Indoor Stadium in Johor Bahru on Sunday.
Also present at the event were MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and PPP president Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan.
The preparations come as political parties ramp up efforts ahead of the Johor state election following the dissolution of the state assembly.
BN remains confident heading into the polls after its dominant performance in the 2022 Johor state election, where the coalition secured a two-thirds majority by winning 40 of the 56 seats contested.
The coalition is expected to unveil its final candidate lineup once internal consultations and seat negotiations are completed.
