Fahmi Urges Negeri Sembilan Voters To Choose Leaders With Integrity

Date:

Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has urged voters in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election to consider governance and integrity as key factors when choosing their representatives.

Fahmi said making the right choice was important to ensure the country’s institutions would not be further affected by corruption and abuse of power.

Referring to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), he said the findings should serve as a reminder of the consequences caused by poor governance and misuse of authority.

He said although the official report submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong did not use informal terms such as “sakau”, it clearly highlighted instances involving corruption and misappropriation.

“The RCI report presented to His Majesty does not use the word sakau because it is an official document, but it clearly shows that corrupt practices had occurred.

“The commission’s findings have been referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action,” he said during a PH campaign speech at the Senaling state constituency here.

Also present was PH Senaling candidate Mohd Hanis Alimin, who will contest against Barisan Nasional’s Mohamad Qayyum Abd Jalil and Bersatu’s Mohd Izaffi Istear Khan in a three-cornered contest.

Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said the release of the RCI report had previously been postponed to allow TH time to undergo restructuring and financial recovery.

He explained that the decision was necessary to prevent public panic and avoid a loss of confidence among depositors that could have resulted in mass withdrawals.

Fahmi urged Negeri Sembilan voters to carefully evaluate candidates before casting their ballots, saying the decision would affect the future of the state and the country.

“Choosing the wrong leaders risks damaging our assets, our state and our country. Choose representatives who are sincere, hardworking and have integrity,” he said.

The Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1 will see 867,151 registered voters choosing new representatives, with 103 candidates competing for 36 state seats.
