Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has reminded Malaysians to ensure the Jalur Gemilang is displayed correctly, especially when creating content involving the national flag through artificial intelligence (AI).
He said while AI technology offers various benefits, users must remain responsible and cautious to prevent inaccurate representations of the Jalur Gemilang in images, videos or other digital materials.
Fahmi stressed that every detail of the national flag must be accurately portrayed, including its 14 alternating stripes, which carry important significance.
“We encourage Malaysians participating in the Fly Jalur Gemilang campaign to take time to understand the correct procedures and etiquette when displaying the national flag.
“At the same time, everyone must be careful when using AI to generate content to ensure there are no errors or inaccuracies. The 14 stripes on the Jalur Gemilang are very important,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the National Month and Fly Jalur Gemilang 2026 programme at the Sultan Azlan Shah Health Ministry Training Institute, which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Fahmi said the Communications Ministry would collaborate with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) and the Malaysian Media Council to work with media organisations in ensuring AI-generated depictions of the Jalur Gemilang remain accurate throughout the National Month celebrations.
He also encouraged Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang from now until at least Sept 16 in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
Various initiatives will be held, including the Fly Jalur Gemilang campaign and the Jelajah Jago dan Merdeka programme, with related activities to be compiled on the Merdeka 360 website.
Fahmi expressed hope that the National Month celebrations would go beyond being a symbolic event and instead strengthen patriotic values among Malaysians.
He said the celebrations should remind citizens, particularly the younger generation, about the importance of understanding the nation’s history, protecting sovereignty, preserving unity and contributing towards the country’s future.
On action against individuals or organisations that display or produce inaccurate versions of the Jalur Gemilang, Fahmi said the government’s initial approach would be through advice and education.
He said although existing laws covered matters related to the national flag, authorities would first engage with those involved and request corrections before considering further action if necessary.
