The government has rejected claims that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, entered Malaysia as part of a Chinese delegation to discuss a repayment arrangement linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong denied the allegation in the Dewan Rakyat today while responding to a question raised by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar).
Syed Saddiq had asked the government to verify reports by investigative outlets Sarawak Report and The Wall Street Journal which claimed that Jho Low had returned to Malaysia to be involved in discussions related to 1MDB.
“I deny the allegation,” Liew said in response.
Syed Saddiq had also questioned whether the government was aware of any such negotiations, pointing out that matters involving 1MDB repayment discussions would fall under the Finance Ministry as the funds would be managed through the ministry’s financial accounts.
Liew’s response came after claims surrounding Jho Low’s alleged involvement in discussions gained attention, with the government maintaining that the allegations were untrue.
