Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has officially resumed his position as Opposition Leader in the Dewan Rakyat, effective from June 18.
The announcement was made by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul when opening the second meeting of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament on Monday.
Johari said the decision followed several developments that had taken place since the last parliamentary sitting and after considering the relevant notifications submitted under Standing Order 4A(3).
He explained that Hamzah, the Member of Parliament for Larut, had previously served as Opposition Leader until May 20.
The position was subsequently held by Kemaman MP Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar from May 21 until June 10.
Following the latest changes, Hamzah has now officially returned to the role with effect from June 18.
“Larut served as Opposition Leader until May 20. Kemaman then assumed the position from May 21 until June 10. And now, Larut has resumed the position of Opposition Leader effective June 18,” Johari announced in the Dewan Rakyat.
He also extended his congratulations to Hamzah following his return to the post.
The appointment marks Hamzah’s return to leading the parliamentary opposition as the Dewan Rakyat begins its latest sitting.
