DAP’s decision for its secretary-general Anthony Loke to offer his resignation as Transport Minister is final and must be respected, said party Central Executive Committee (CEC) deputy secretary-general Hannah Yeoh.
Hannah said the DAP CEC held a lengthy meeting last Saturday, during which various proposals and views were presented and discussed.
However, she declined to reveal details of the discussions, saying they remained part of the party’s internal deliberations.
“The CEC held a lengthy meeting, with various proposals put forward and opinions heard. The final decision by the CEC, as the party’s highest decision-making body, was that Anthony Loke would offer to resign.
“That is the CEC’s decision. I do not want to disclose the other discussions because they took place within the CEC, but we have to respect the decision made by the CEC,” she said.
Hannah was speaking to reporters after the announcement of the 2026 Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Deepavali Bazaar when asked whether she was also feeling pressure and would take similar action following Loke’s resignation announcement.
Loke’s decision was made in response to DAP’s position on the decision allowing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Loke had previously said other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would remain in the Unity Government.
On Friday, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that Najib, 73, had received a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to conditions including payment of a RM50 million fine.
The decision was made during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara.
Asked separately whether the Pardons Board would release the minutes of its recent meeting, Hannah, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Federal Territories, declined to comment further.
