Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh has clarified that her choice to wear a shawl when attending iftar events at mosques or suraus is a gesture of respect and proper etiquette.
She addressed confusion and criticism over her attire, noting that some viewed it as mere formality while others claimed she was being disrespectful if she did not wear it.
“What’s the issue with a shawl? Wear it and they call it showy, don’t wear it and they say it’s disrespectful.
As long as the heart is at peace, only God is the giver of blessings,” she said.
Hannah Yeoh added that during Ramadan, she has attended numerous iftar gatherings at mosques and suraus, and entering places of worship requires observing proper decorum. Wearing the shawl, she explained, is her way of showing respect in accordance with these traditions.
