Hasnul Zulkarnain Rejoins Amanah After Six-Year Absence

Date:

Former Titi Serong state assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim has officially rejoined Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) after nearly six years away from the party.

The announcement was made by Amanah Perak chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi during the Amanah Tambun Area Annual Meeting 2026 held at a hotel on Sunday.

Asmuni said Hasnul’s application to return to the party had been submitted some time ago but was only processed when the political climate was deemed suitable.

He clarified that the former Perak exco member did not leave due to expulsion or disciplinary action, but as a result of political developments following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in 2020.

“We have seen other parties, including UMNO, also adopt the approach of accepting back members who had previously left or been dismissed,” he said.

“Therefore, I believe the time is appropriate for us to consider Hasnul’s application, along with several others in similar situations,” he added.

Asmuni said the decision to accept Hasnul back into Amanah had been approved during a party management and national leadership meeting held on June 18.

He added that the reinstatement of the former Amanah National Youth chief would be subject to guidelines currently being drafted for returning members.

Meanwhile, Hasnul said his application to rejoin the party was made last year but only received approval after gaining support from both state and national leadership.

He expressed appreciation to Amanah’s National Leadership Committee for reinstating his membership.

“I believe they still have confidence that I can contribute to the party, especially Amanah Perak and the Tambun constituency, in strengthening the party and Pakatan Harapan ahead of the 16th General Election,” he said.

Hasnul also said his decision to return was driven by his long-standing connection with Amanah since its early formation.

“I was born from Amanah and involved in its early development. My spirit and commitment remain with my friends in the party,” he said.

He added that he had no intention of contesting in the next general election for now, saying he wanted to focus on rebuilding trust within the party.

In March 2020, Hasnul Zulkarnain and two other PH assemblymen left their parties and became independent representatives following the formation of the Perikatan Nasional government in Perak.

The other two were former Tronoh assemblyman Yong Choo Kiong and former Buntong assemblyman A Sivasubramaniam, both from DAP, who supported Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perak Menteri Besar from Bersatu.
