UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has reminded Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming of his previous pledge to resign, following DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke’s decision to step down as Transport Minister.
In a Facebook post, Akmal took aim at Loke’s resignation, describing it as a case of “ordering one thing and getting another”.
“If you have forgotten or are pretending to forget, let me remind you how to write a resignation letter,” he wrote.
“You can share it with your other friends too, if they dare,” he added.
Loke announced his resignation following the decision to grant former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak conditional house arrest.
However, Loke said other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would remain in the Unity Government, citing the need to maintain political stability.
Loke also acknowledged that some quarters were hoping DAP would withdraw from the government, which could potentially affect Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s parliamentary majority and trigger political uncertainty.
Akmal’s remarks were also directed at Nga, who is DAP deputy chairman and had previously pledged to become the first minister to resign if UMNO secured a landslide victory in the Johor election and Najib was released without serving what Nga considered an appropriate sentence.
Meanwhile, Akmal shared a post from July 12 featuring his resignation letter when he stepped down as a Melaka executive councillor.
He offered the letter as a reference for Nga, amid the latest political exchange between UMNO and DAP.
