PKR should not be issuing ultimatums to Umno over whether it intends to remain in the unity government or shift its support to Perikatan Nasional (PN), PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.
He said PKR should first consider its own position and strength in Parliament and the state assemblies before making warning-like statements against Umno, which holds more seats.
“PKR wants to warn Umno, but how many seats does it have? Umno has more seats than PKR. PKR should not act that way. It relies on Umno, on Umno’s strength,” he told reporters at the PAS muktamar here last night.
Tuan Ibrahim said parties working together in government should respect one another’s positions, particularly since Umno and PKR are not part of the same political coalition.
“In political cooperation, we normally respect one another. That is why I think Umno is very uncomfortable with the actions of its partners, including PKR, DAP and others.
“Every party is entitled to maintain its own position, but I think it is very discourteous for one party to call out another in such a way,” he said.
He was responding to a call by PKR Youth deputy chief Nabil Halimi for Umno to either fully commit to the Madani government or relinquish its government positions in favour of PN.
Nabil had issued the ultimatum after Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for the 16th General Election (GE16) to be held earlier.
Tuan Ibrahim reiterated his call for GE16 to be held soon, citing what he described as growing instability among parties in the government.
He said open disagreements were increasingly emerging between coalition partners, with disputes even extending to the allocation of funds involving ministries.
