A 19-year-old college student was left traumatised after an e-hailing driver allegedly subjected her to an obscene conversation during a late-night journey from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to her hostel in Setapak.
The student, who identified herself as Putery, recorded part of the alleged conversation, which later went viral on social media.
Putery, from Seremban, Negri Sembilan, said she had travelled to Kuala Lumpur by bus on Wednesday and was initially expected to reach the terminal at about 9pm.
However, the bus was delayed and only arrived at around 1.30am. She had already booked an e-hailing ride while still in Seremban, but the original driver cancelled the booking after learning about the delay.
She was subsequently assigned another driver, who contacted her and said he was near the terminal. Putery told him she had yet to arrive and was asked to contact him once she reached TBS.
After meeting the driver, Putery said the conversation initially centred on her delayed bus before turning to his personal experiences.
The driver allegedly asked whether she had any plans for the holidays. When she said she did not because her friends were travelling in Thailand while she had returned home to spend time with her family, the conversation reportedly shifted to Thailand, prostitution and sex.
Putery said she tried to limit her responses to brief remarks such as “oh”, “really” and “I understand” because she was uncomfortable, but claimed the driver continued talking about sexual matters.
“He even used my body as an example while discussing sexual matters,” she said.
According to Putery, the driver continued discussing sex throughout the journey and was still talking about it when they reached her hostel.
She also alleged that he showed her a type of pill which he claimed to have taken before having sex.
Putery said the journey, which would normally take around 20 minutes, took longer despite the roads being relatively clear at that hour.
She explained that she chose not to confront the driver because she was alone with him and feared that doing so could put her in a more vulnerable situation.
“I did not want to confront him because I am a woman and it was just the two of us. I was worried that if something happened, I might not be able to do anything.
“That was why I chose to remain silent until we reached my destination,” she said.
Putery has since lodged a police report at the Setapak police station.
