Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has brushed aside Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s earlier pledge to resign if Barisan Nasional (BN) secured a landslide victory in the Johor state election and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was released.
Speaking to Harian Metro, Zahid said such remarks were unnecessary given that both leaders serve in the same Unity Government.
“If we were in the opposition, perhaps such remarks could be considered acceptable. But since we’re part of the same government, there is no need to raise such issues,” he said.
The UMNO president and BN chairman described Nga’s comments as inappropriate but said there was no reason to make the matter bigger than it was.
“It’s alright. I’ll meet him — he’s my friend,” Zahid said.
Commenting on the relationship between coalition partners following BN’s strong performance in the Johor state election, Zahid stressed that cooperation within the Unity Government remains stable and professional.
He said ministers and deputy ministers continue to work closely as one team and are committed to serving until the end of the current administration’s term.
According to Zahid, the actual working relationship within the Unity Government is far better than what is often perceived publicly.
Looking ahead to the Negeri Sembilan state election, Zahid said BN’s campaign strategy would be tailored to suit the state’s political landscape, with the coalition expected to unveil its candidates later this week.
