Johor Nomination Day Runs Smoothly Without Any Incidents, Says Police

Date:

The nomination process for the 16th Johor State Election, held simultaneously at 56 nomination centres across the state on Saturday, proceeded smoothly without any incidents affecting public order.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said that as of 10am, police had not received any reports of disturbances, provocation or incidents that could disrupt the nomination proceedings.

“Up to 10am, we have not received any reports or incidents that could interfere with the nomination process,” he said.

“In other words, the nomination process at all 56 centres across Johor has gone smoothly without any disruption,” he told a press conference after visiting the nomination centre for the Puteri Wangsa state seat at SMK Bandar Dato’ Onn.

He said a total of 4,832 police personnel from the Johor contingent were deployed to ensure security at all nomination centres.

Police also focused on traffic management, as several main roads near nomination centres were closed to facilitate movement of candidates and supporters.

“Additionally, 437 traffic personnel were deployed to monitor traffic flow and escort political leaders and supporters attending the process,” he said.

He added that although minor congestion occurred at certain locations due to road closures, overall traffic flow remained under control and smooth.

Ab Rahaman also confirmed that as of Saturday, police had approved 26 campaign permits statewide.

He said the number is expected to increase throughout the campaigning period, depending on applications received and assessments by district police chiefs.

He urged all political parties and supporters to comply with election laws and conduct campaigns in a responsible and respectful manner.

Police, he added, are fully prepared to handle any possible incidents that may affect public safety or campaign activities, and strict action will be taken against those who violate regulations under existing laws.
