The Election Commission (EC) has officially set July 11 as polling day for the Johor state election, while voters in Negeri Sembilan will head to the polls on August 1.
EC chairman Ramlan Harun announced the dates following a special commission meeting held on Friday to determine key dates and preparations for both state elections.
For Johor, nomination day has been fixed for June 27, while early voting will take place on July 7.
“For the Johor state election, nomination day will be held on June 27 and early voting on July 7,” Ramlan told a press conference at the EC headquarters.
Meanwhile, nomination day for the Negeri Sembilan state election has been scheduled for July 18, with early voting set for July 28.
The Johor state assembly was dissolved on June 1 after Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi received consent from Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
Johor has 56 state seats and the upcoming election will mark the state’s 16th state election.
In Negeri Sembilan, the 36-seat state assembly was dissolved on June 5 following an announcement by Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun a day earlier.
The dissolution received the consent of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
The twin state elections are expected to draw significant political attention as parties intensify preparations and finalise candidate selections ahead of the nomination period.
Further details regarding campaign regulations and election preparations are expected to be announced by the commission in the coming days.
