The Road Transport Department (RTD) will introduce a special “P-P” vehicle registration number series to commemorate its 80th anniversary, marking eight decades of service in Malaysia’s road transport system.
RTD director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said the exclusive series symbolises the department’s long-standing role in transport management, enforcement, and regulatory development.
He said the “P-P” series reflects the department’s identity and evolution, while also carrying a symbolic connection to Penang, where the anniversary celebrations will be held.
The special registration numbers will be made available to the public through an online bidding process via the JPJ eBid platform, which authorities say ensures transparency and efficiency.
Bidding will open on April 20 and close on April 24 at 10pm, with results to be announced within 24 hours on April 25. Successful bidders will be required to register their numbers on a vehicle within 12 months from the date of the official result letter.
Aedy also said earlier technical issues, including system lag during bidding, have been resolved following upgrades to the platform, improving user experience and reducing disruptions.
In a separate announcement, nearly 50,000 unsold registration numbers will be offered at a 50 per cent discount during the Karnival Mega JPJ MADANI, which will be held from April 24 to 26 at Stadium Batu Kawan.
He added that selected number plates, including those priced as low as RM250, will only be available for on-site purchase on April 26, and members of the public are encouraged to attend the carnival.
